Furthermore, passion has profound psychological and physiological benefits. Studies have shown that individuals who engage in activities they're passionate about experience increased levels of dopamine, the neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward. A lot of these exercises can be found on the internet for free, and those that really make you think about the aspects of your life that can be improved are the ones to focus on.

What kind of impact do I want to have on the world? What legacy do I want to leave behind? Write down your values and rank them in order of importance, to aid you in determining what to focus on the most.

Understanding your personality type can provide valuable insights into the types of activities and environments that are most likely to fuel your passion. Take a personality test, such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) or the DISC assessment, and reflect on how your personality traits align with potential passions. This way it might help with the direction to go in that would benefit you the most.

Recall childhood memories

Reflect on your childhood and the activities, hobbies, or subjects that brought you the most joy and fulfilment. Often, our passions are rooted in the interests and natural inclinations we had as children, before societal expectations and external pressures influenced our choices. Make sure to spend some time doing the things that you used to enjoy to see whether they can still be a part of your life.

Discover your peak experiences 

Think back to moments in your life when you felt truly alive, engaged, and fulfilled. What were you doing? Who were you with? What made those experiences so memorable and rewarding? Identifying the common threads among your peak experiences can provide clues about your passions. Consider getting a journal or diary to record your experiences which would enable you to reflect easier moving forward.

Exploring Interests and Values

Once you've gained a deeper understanding of your values, personality, and past experiences, it's time to start exploring potential passions. Here are some strategies to help you uncover areas of interest:

  • Attending classes to determine whether you enjoy the hobby and to connect with others that also participate.

  • Taking personality tests to reflect on the values and interests that resonate the best and are also suitable to your specific personality.

  • Reflect on things that you have always wanted to try or used to enjoy in the past.

  • Consider what your life would look like if money was not an object and see what values or interests you would have - start slowly working towards that ideal version of yourself!

Brainstorm a comprehensive list of activities, hobbies, subjects, or careers that pique your curiosity or spark your enthusiasm. Don't censor yourself at this stage; write down anything that comes to mind, no matter how unconventional or impractical it may seem. Some paths may lead to others further down the line so see if one of your hobbies could lead to a career so you have multiple options.

Try New Things

Step out of your comfort zone and experiment with new activities or skills. Sign up for a class, attend a workshop, or volunteer for a cause that aligns with your values. Exposing yourself to new experiences can help you discover hidden passions and also enable you to network so that others could lead you closer to the future that you wish for, as well as enable you to bond over the newly found hobby.

Read biographies or watch documentaries about people who have achieved extraordinary things in fields that interest you. Immersing yourself in their stories and journeys can ignite your own sense of passion and possibility, as well as provide you with a path on how to start with the specific interest.

Discuss your interests and potential passions with friends, family members, or mentors who know you well. Their outside perspectives can help you identify patterns or strengths you may have overlooked. Sometimes mentors and coaches are beneficial due to having a more objective view.

  • Self reflection to help you determine what your triggers are and for you to find ways around them to achieve what you want in life.

  • Read self help books to learn new coping methods and ways to see the situation that you struggle with. This could be to help with personal development or even explaining why you feel or act a certain way about a situation.

This might be hard initially but it will be worth it when you manage to achieve what you want.
